About the ATA 2016

Midst the beautiful virgin rainforests of the Gold Coast hinterland, ATA 2016 participants will enjoy mentoring from world class trumpet artists in an exclusive and intensive course catering to excellence in solo music, orchestral music, chamber music, historical or period instrument performance and more.

In 2016 the Australasian Trumpet Academy is proud to welcome acclaimed International trumpet soloists Giuliano Sommerhalder (Italy), Rex Richardson (USA) and from the University of Melbourne, Dr Joel Brennan (USA).

This is a rare chance for aspiring trumpeters to spend five days under the personal instruction from some of the world’s greatest trumpet artists.

Academy Studies

Brass Basics & Warm-Up Class
Join Giuliano Sommerhalder, and Rex Richardson, and take part in daily warm-up routines, and share in their wealth of brass playing experience from over a decade as being two of the world’s great trumpet soloists.

Modern Trumpet Solo Repertoire
Participants are encouraged to prepare solo repertoire, (drawing from baroque, classical, romantic, 20th century and contemporary literature for trumpet) for performance during daily master classes.

Orchestral Trumpet Repertoire
ATA participants will be expertly guided through orchestral and audition repertoire during the academy, and will provided with the opportunity to take part in a ‘mock audition’.

Trumpet Ensembles
All participants will have the opportunity to take part in the ATA Ensemble. Ensembles varying in size will also be formed to allow for the greatest diversity in repertoire. These ensembles will also take part in the ATA Gala Concert.

Historical Trumpet Studies

As part of the ATA we are proud to offer a course of study for all participants wanting to pursuit performance on period instruments, baroque/natural trumpet and cornetto. Whether participants are experienced on period instruments or would just like to be exposed to the baroque trumpet for the first time, here’s your chance to get involved.
